Analysis: The Judeo-Masonic Conspiracy theory

The Judeo-Masonic conspiracy is a long-standing theory claiming that Jews or “Crypto-Jews” and high-level Freemasons have conspired together to dominate world affairs.

Conceptual Origin

The 1797 treatise, Memoirs Illustrating the History of Jacobinism by the French Jesuit Augustin Barruel, claimed Freemasons were behind the French Revolution and plotted to overthrow European aristocracy and the Roman Catholic Church. Although Barruel blamed Freemasons initially and not the Jewish people, who were emancipated after the revolution, he later spread a forged letter, which claimed that Jews were a part of the conspiracy. The letter is believed to have been forged by members of the state police in opposition to Napoléon Bonaparte’s policies, which emancipated the European Jews from laws restricting them to ghettos and from limitations regarding worship, careers, and property.

Analysis of Conceptual Origin

Freemasons were an important part of the French Revolution and historians wouldn’t deny that. (1) The true causes of the French Revolution and emerging political atmosphere are complex, though. The subject is still debated among historians, so leveraging it exclusively on Freemasonry is a generalization. Barruel claiming that Freemasons and/or other secret societies caused the French Revolution isn’t necessarily wrong, but the conspiratorial narrative being projected is blatant propaganda.

The Catholic Church had already issued a number of Papal bans against Masonry and therefore, a Jesuit claiming Freemasons were behind a conspiracy to overthrow European aristocracy and the Catholic Church isn’t surprising. The religious and political motivations behind the persecution of Freemasonry are obvious and simple to understand, having been remarked upon by countless authors and historians. The conclusion always boils down to the same claim that the Catholic Church was taking preemptive measures against what it perceived as a potential threat to its political and religious authority.

The conceptual origin of the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy stems from blatantly non-objective sources with equally obvious motivations to spread propaganda against Freemasonry and other entities that opposed the tyrannical political and religious system of the period. That does not necessarily mean the propaganda was intentional, but it’s an undeniable possibility.

Contradictions

French Freemasonry of the time was exclusive and denied Jews and many other classes admission. (2) Another problem with the theory is the fact that Freemasonry is a global order with members of different religious and political views. The idea that there is an overall religious or political agenda is a stretch since the logistics, communication, language barrier, and countless other things would have been a major issue making it practically impossible. Furthermore, in the final stages of the French Revolution, many of the revolutionary extremists actually persecuted Freemasons which exposes the fact that Freemasonry was not the overarching power behind the revolution. (3)

There is no clear evidence that Napoléon Bonaparte was a Freemason, but he was undeniably connected to the order. His brother, Joseph Bonaparte, was even the Grand Master of the Grand Orient of France and monitored Freemasonry upon his request. (4) The views of Freemasonry and the views of Napoléon do not reflect favoritism toward the Jews but simply reflect religious tolerance. Napoléon did not see any rationale in persecuting Jews because “the Jews are the same as any other citizen in our country.” (5) Of course, the religious tolerance of Freemasonry is well-known and has been a long-standing aspect of Masonic belief.

If Napoléon was a Freemason and his policies are proof of a Jewish alliance, then a glaring contradiction stands in the fact that the Duke of Wellington, a Freemason, defeated Napoléon and opposed emancipation of the Jews. (6) Wellington accepted Rothchild funding for the military defeat of Bonaparte, but of British elite corrupted by Rothschild pockets, Wellington wasn’t one of them. Wellington questioned whether Jews had understood “the blessings of the English Constituition” and reminded his fellows that Jews had once been “as alien enemies who were not allowed to live in this country.” So, while many claim the Masonic link influenced the British to bend over for the Jews, this isn’t true. In reality, both Wellington and French opponents wanted Jews out of the picture without issue and what came to rise was the idea of giving them a homeland to solve what they felt was a problem.

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a fabricated document claiming to be an expose of an international Jewish conspiracy. In relation to the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy theory, the document claims that the Jews infiltrated Freemasonry for the sake of their global agenda. The obvious problem with that for the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy is the fact that for Jews to infiltrate Freemasonry would naturally imply that they were not already connected or conspiring together, but also that Freemasons were not a part of the conspiracy but merely subjected to it through infiltration. There is also the technical matter of the infiltration itself, but we will go into that in a separate section.

Devil’s Advocate: Treatise, Letter, & Protocols

Imagine the treatise was not propaganda, the circulated letter was not a forgery, and the Protocols document was not fabricated. That would mean Freemasons were thought guilty of causing the French Revolution but that the theory itself evolved into an international conspiracy, in which the blame was shifted to the Jews and not the Freemasons or at least, more toward the Jews than Freemasons. The prevailing view was that Freemasonry was infiltrated by Jews and Jews were the actual conspirators, not Freemasons. This view was upheld during the rise of Adolf Hitler who appeared to subscribe to it himself.

To strengthen his (the Jews) political position he tries to tear down the racial and civil barriers which for a time continue to restrain him at every step. To this end he fights with all the tenacity innate in him for religious tolerance – and in Freemasonry, which has succumbed to him completely, he has an excellent instrument with which to fight for his aims and put them across. The governing circles and the higher strata of the political and economic bourgeoisie are brought into his nets by the strings of Freemasonry, and never need to suspect what is happening. “— Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf  (7)

In most cases, it seemed that Freemasonry was seen as the tool of the Jews, but not necessarily that Masons were the conspirators themselves, but obviously views varied. However, as the situation escalated this view changed and Freemasons were then viewed as willing conspirators in the Jewish conspiracy. Regardless, it seems that even in the more escalated view, Freemasons are the less guilty party who are “succumbing” to the “Jewish” and not “Masonic” or “Judeo-Masonic” conspiracy.

Nazi Germany & Freemasonry

The Nazi believed that Jews and Freemasons assisted the defeat of Germany in World War I and suspected high-degree Freemasons to be co-conspirators in the Jewish conspiracy. As a result, the Nazi passed the Enabling Act allowing for the disbandment and persecution of Freemasonry. It’s estimated that somewhere between 80,000 – 200,000 Freemasons were killed under Nazi Germany.

Freemasonry & Hitler’s Pope?

Some have suggested the only real reason the Nazi condemned Freemasons in association to Jews were due to ideological and theological differences also considered problematic for the Catholic Church. For that reason, it’s especially strange that Pope Pius XII was quiet about the Nazi and became known as Hitler’s Pope. The implication being that they conspired together to persecute both Jews and Freemasons. However, there are criticisms about the depths of the connection between the Nazi and Catholic Church. There is also criticism of the idea that Pius XII was “Hitler’s Pope.”

Reality Vs. Propaganda

The Jews and Freemasons were caught off guard by the Nazi. Thousands and thousands were murdered. If either had advanced networks or advanced organization, especially an interconnected network between the two of them, then thousands of them would not have been killed. There is a huge difference between reality and propaganda. The reality is that you can go to these graves. However, Freemasons are capable of such a network and advanced organization, evident by things such as the Culper Spy Ring, but clearly, they were not prepared during that particular time period and region. The Jews, on the other hand, simply didn’t have the network or organization to at that time.

I am the only living witness but I must say the truth. Contrary to the opinion of the National Socialists, that the Jews were a highly organized group, the appalling fact was that they had no organization whatsoever. The mass of the Jewish people were taken complete by surprise. They did not know at all what to do; they had no directives or slogans as to how they should act. This is the greatest lie of anti-Semitism because it gives the lie to that old slogan that the Jews are conspiring to dominate the world and that they are so highly organized. In reality, they had no organization of their own at all, not even an information service. If they had had some sort of organization, these people could have been saved by the millions, but instead, they were taken completely by surprise. Never before has a people gone as unsuspectingly to its disaster. Nothing was prepared. Absolutely nothing — Nazi SS-Obergruppenführer (General) Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski  (8)

Fear of Freemasonry & Jews

The fear of Freemasonry stems from the French and American Revolution. New regimes, dictators, and tyrannical forces are terrified of Freemasonry since it can undermine their political and religious authority. The Catholic Church, the Nazi, Mussolini, Miguel Primo de River, and Saddam Hussein feared Freemasons for that reason.

International groups are often feared as potential outlets for espionage and subverters. Freemasonry is not widely feared or suspected of that anymore since it’s counter-intuitive for agents and would slow the whole process down. However, Jews have been and still are feared for that reason (among other things), which is why the potentiality of that has been often referred to as “The International Jew” but more commonly as the “Jewish problem” or “Jewish question.” This permitted the necessity for a Jewish homeland in the eyes of many political circles.

Infiltrating Freemasonry

There are countless claims of Freemasonry having been infiltrated by specific groups. I find that difficult to believe for the following reasons.

  1. There is a documented progression of the craft evident by and dating from the Old Charges to modern Freemasonry. There are no major changes that stand in contradiction of that progression to indicate that Freemasonry had been infiltrated and bent to a specific agenda.
  2. The logistics of a global infiltration of Freemasonry would be an absolute nightmare.
  3. There are practical issues that would make an infiltration difficult. There is a waiting period for new candidates and there is also the chance of a potential candidate receiving the black ball. You must know a few masons for some time before being able to submit a petition. It takes a while to finish the degrees and even longer to become a well-established Freemason. An infiltration would require a lot of funding because of dues. You don’t “become” a 33° Freemason, you are chosen. You don’t just become a Knight Templar, either.
  4. Since Freemasons are of differing political, religious, and financial interests an infiltration would meet a great deal of resistance. This is what a lot of conspiracy theorists cannot get through their thick skulls. In reality, Freemasons have clashed and killed each other on many occasions throughout history because of differing political, religious, and financial interests.
  5. The craft features teachings of ancient and varied religions, including that of Islam and ancient Egypt. If the craft was Jewish/Zionist controlled, then why would it have Islamic and ancient Egyptian teachings?

For a single infiltrator to succeed would be an incredible feat. For multiple infiltrators to succeed across the globe would be highly improbable, if not impossible.

There is nothing to suggest that Freemasonry has changed its fundamental tenets or its allegiance to those tenets. The idea that Freemasons would “succumb” to Jews or any specific group seems pretty naive. If the highest Freemasons and highest Jews were to conspire, it would be on equal standing and the Freemasons would be a willing participant, not a tool. Of course, that would contradict many of the accusations, though.

Temple of Solomon, Prophecy, State of Israel, Freemasonry, and Harry (Solomon) Truman

Isaac Newton was known for his scientific contributions but little is known of his occult foresight. Newton studied the occult messages within theology and specifically studied the Temple of Solomon. He, as many, believed the proportions of the temple held secrets and Newton made predictions based off of these Biblical interpretations, such as his well-known 2060 prediction. Of his lesser-known predictions is the prediction of the creation of the State of Israel with help “from some other kingdom friendly to them” and the general time period in which it would happen.

Masonic Rebuilding Of The Temple Of Solomon

The most important part of Masonic allegory centers around Hiram Abiff, an allegorical figure based on the Osirian myth, who in Masonic allegory represents the architect of the Temple of Solomon.

The majority of Freemasons do not study Freemasonry enough to understand the meaning of this allegory.  In short, Hiram is merely a prototype of death and resurrection mythologies, and this allegory is merely the insinuation of the historicity and creation of such myths.

Most interpretations of Freemasonry by Freemasons are wrong, so you can only imagine that superficial interpretations by non-masons are even worse and they are.

The best example of these false and unjust interpretations is the idea or claim that the goal of Freemasonry is to obtain the Holy Land and start the rebuilding of the Third Temple. In reality, the purpose of Solomon’s Temple in Masonic allegory is incredibly different, but quite frankly, it’s understandable how someone could come to that conclusion given a superficial understanding of the order.

Regardless of misinterpretations, some interesting connections do emerge in history.  I’m going to put my tinfoil hat on, for a moment.

– Isaac Newton, who intensely studied the Temple of Solomon, predicted with degrees of accuracy the time period (generally speaking) when the State of Israel would be ‘created’ and that this would happen with help “from some other kingdom friendly to them (the Jews)” and that ‘kingdom’ would be the United States.

– On May 14, 1948, Israel proclaimed independence and eleven minutes later, the United States of America recognized the State of Israel under Harry S. Truman.

– Franklin D. Roosevelt was a 32° Freemason and 32nd president and a 33° Freemason, Harry S. Truman, became the 33rd president after the passing of Roosevelt.

– You could argue that Roosevelt set the stage for major Jewish influence in Washington and that he being a Freemason explains it, if you’re a conspiracy theorist subscribing to the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy, that is.

– According to Biblical sources, Jesus was crucified at age 33 during 33 AD.

– The number 33 invokes Christ, his crucifixion, death, and/or resurrection. The fact that Roosevelt died and Truman became president because of it suggests a death and resurrection motif. The 32° also equates to the equilibrium of light and darkness and the 33° to the light or Sun, Jesus Christ. The building of the Third Temple is said to mark the soon return of Christ.

– Truman’s middle name was a bit of a mystery until he said it interchangeably stood for his grandfather’s names, Shipp and Solomon. I don’t know if there is any connection to the name Shipp, but Solomon stands out since the main allegory of Freemasonry relates to the architect of Solomon’s Temple and his death and resurrection. To clarify, the architect of Solomon’s Temple according to Masonic allegory.

– Conspiracy theorists have claimed the goal of Freemasonry or the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy is to rebuild the Temple of Solomon, which would first require establishing or reestablishing the Holy Land to the Jews, which was done by Truman in recognizing the State of Israel.

– Truman was a close friend of Edward Jacobson. Jacobson was a Jew who influenced and pressured Truman to recognize Israel and also pressured him to meet Chaim Weizmann, president of the Zionist Organization and first President of Israel. This is public information and was not a secret of any kind. However, it does confirm that technically, a Freemason and Zionist worked together to recognize Israel.

So, a prophecy from a man who studied the Temple of Solomon predicted Israel would be established by a friendly nation, America, and it was. Israel became recognized by 33° Freemason and 33rd president, Harry Solomon Truman after the 32nd president and 32° Freemason, Franklin D. Roosevelt, died. Of course, to many Judeo-Masonic theorists, the goal of the order of Freemasonry is to rebuild the Temple of Solomon, so this makes perfect sense, especially Truman’s Zionist support and connection to Weizmann through his old friend Jacobson. Finally, the number 33 invokes the death and resurrection of Christ and the building of the Third Temple is said to mark his return.

Thoughts & Clarity

It can be claimed that Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman set the stage for the recognition of Israel but it was planned beforehand. Lionel Walter Rothschild, a close friend of Chaim Weizmann and the heir of Nathan Rothchild, initiated this through the Balfour Declaration. History suggests Israel had been promised by the British to the Jews after the Rothschilds amassed enough wealth to influence it. The British dragged this matter to the U.S. The upper stratosphere of American leaders were not invested in the issue and even advised Truman not to recognize Israel, but his personal and international connections pressured him into it until he felt he had no choice. Ultimately, this was NOT a matter of Masonic concern and Truman himself didn’t truly want this to happen. In fact, he crossed out “Jewish State” and replaced it with just “State” in the document recognizing the State of Israel.

In his later years, Truman said of Jews in his diary, “The Jews, I find are very, very selfish. They care not how many Estonians, Latvians, Finns, Poles, Yugoslavs or Greeks get murdered or mistreated as D[isplaced] P[ersons] as long as the Jews get special treatment. Yet when they have power, physical, financial or political neither Hitler nor Stalin has anything on them for cruelty or mistreatment to the under dog. Put an underdog on top and it makes no difference whether his name is Russian, Jewish, Negro, Management, Labor, Mormon, Baptist he goes haywire. I’ve found very, very few who remember their past condition when prosperity comes.”
Israel & America

The relations between Israel and the United States are a matter of international politics. If you’re claiming the U.S. and Israel are conspiring together, then yes, obviously! The U.S. openly admits its allegiance to Israel and the idea that Israel is the American window to the Middle East is openly stated and recognized by many. Even the Wikipedia page on their relations states “Israel–United States relations are a very important factor in the United States government‘s overall policy in the Middle East, and Congress has placed considerable importance on the maintenance of a close and supportive relationship. This, just as Truman’s meeting with Weizmann, was never a secret.

Ironically, you see conspiracy theorists make wild and vague claims, but do not point these type of things out. It’s mind-blowing. I don’t personally feel that any of this had anything to do with Freemasonry. In fact, I don’t believe America even wanted this initially, but only later realized it would be good for matters of foreign policy.

If you want a deeper look into how the American elite have viewed the Jews and could still, listen to this recording of Nixon, in which Nixon claims in regards to Jewish agitators “It may be they have a deathwish; That’s been the problem with our Jewish friends for centuries.” The “Jewish friends for centuries” part is, of course, something that sticks out. Another thing of interest is how the USS Liberty was attacked by Israel and then covered up as an accident despite glaring contradictory information revealing otherwise. It seems the U.S. want to preserve and remain loyal to their window to the Middle East but struggle to understand the extremity of their Jewish agitators.

Conclusion

“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” — Marcello Truzzi / Quote popularized by Carl Sagan

There is insufficient evidence to support the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy theory from a historical perspective, but technically, a ‘high-level’ Freemason and ‘high-level’ Jew worked together to establish Israel. However, the main claim is that the ‘Judeo-Masonic’ elite control the world, which clearly isn’t true. Furthermore, the relations between Israel and the U.S. are a more-so a matter of international politics.

There are plenty of conspiracies and interesting connections to uncover but the simplicity of the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy is what makes it improbable.

The Shamanic Jesus of The Gospel of Thomas

“One mind there is, but under it two principles contend.” – Philip K. Dick Tractates Cryptica Scriptura

The process of deciding what constitutes Christian doctrine and what are the remnants of previous traditions was summed up well by Elaine Pagels when she writes in Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas, What survived as orthodox Christianity did so by suppressing and forcibly eliminating a lot of other material.”

This can often be revelatory for those who believe that Christianity today exists in the same form as in its first centuries.

This position is also expounded upon by Earl Doherty in his book The Jesus Puzzle and in his argument that a wisdom tradition existed and influenced the development of early Christianity, “…but in conjunction with the Greek Logos concept in the Hellenistic tradition of the period. Indeed, even Jewish personified Wisdom by Paul’s time had been influenced by the Greek Logos, as we can see in the Hellenistic Judaism of Philo and an Alexandrian document about to be examined.” (1.)

The Gospel of Thomas has perplexed scholars and believers alike since its discovery as part of the Nag Hammadi texts in 1945. We also have fragments dating back even earlier coming from the Oxyrhynchus Papyri in Egypt. Arguments have raged as to whether the sayings encompass traditional Christian thought at all, and even Gnostics have expressed doubt when the sayings are included in generalizations as being Gnostic, Christian or Platonic.

Scholars now believe that the original, core sayings were composed somewhere between 40AD and 140 AD which could in effect place them even earlier than the canonical Gospels. Perhaps the truth of the matter can be reconciled for now by the thinking of Robert Van Voorst who believes that although it could have been written down in the 2nd century, the oral tradition on which it is based is much older. (2.)

Of course, this leaves conventional Christianity in somewhat of a bind as The Gospel of Thomas has Jesus making some very unusual statements more in line with Hermetic or alchemical thinking. In fact, some of the sayings from the Gospel of Thomas are positively shamanistic: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

If these sayings attributed to Jesus were from older more ancient traditions then they should encompass a philosophy that was already known and existent at the time. They should reflect esoteric thinking which we now understand to have been part of mystery schools and oral spirituality.

Writing in The Pagan Christ, Tom Harpur describes the tradition as thus, “Many of them were pre-existent, pre-historic, and therefore certainly pre-Christian. They were collections of Egyptian, Hebrew and Gnostic sayings, and therefore cannot stand on their own as evidence that the Jesus of the Gospels ever lived as a man or teacher.”

He goes on to write, “These sayings were all oral teachings in the ancient Mysteries ages before they were written down.” (3.)

So, what can we glean from the Gospel of Thomas that might be construed as older, as shamanic and reflecting the mysticism of the mystery traditions?

Quite a lot, in actual fact.

We can find examples of the holographic nature of reality which shaman describe. We can find descriptions of the Hermetic and alchemical ‘as above, so below’ maxim and we can find specific instruction to go within in order to find the eternal.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that, as Andrew Phillip Smith writes in The Secret History of the Gnostics, “All of the surviving copies of Thomas, in Greek and Coptic, were found in Egypt.” (4.)

Could The Gospel of Thomas incorporate a much earlier alchemical and shamanistic world view which informed the esoteric thinking of ancient Egypt and the Mediterranean region?

After all, the word alchemy comes from the term Al Khem which means ‘Black Earth’ and was the ancient name for Egypt.

One of the most enigmatic sayings from The Gospel of Thomas and a good example of the parallels with the shamanic world view is saying number 22.

Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, “These infants being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom.”

They said to him, “Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?”
Jesus said to them, “When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom.”

Here we have a clear example of a mystery teaching incorporated into Thomas and a saying that links us back to the ancient Pyramid Texts. This notion of the unification of opposites incorporates the ‘great work’ of alchemy and the goal of enlightenment which is the transformation of the self.

Another major and overlooked parallel is described by Jeremy Naydler in Shamanic Wisdom in the Pyramid Texts when he writes, “Unlike historically more recent, and therefore more familiar, accounts of visionary mystics, the Pyramid Texts do not have a narrative form.” (5.)

This has been one of the frustrations for Christian scholars who struggle to find uniformity in the Gospel of Thomas. Maybe the solution is to forget about linear uniformity altogether and accept that this collection contains sayings from various traditions which, over time, were placed together in order to suit the groups who read them.

When scholars struggle with saying 114 from Thomas and try to overcome its misogynistic appearance perhaps a return to the esoteric and alchemical subtext may untangle the transformative secret of its words.

“Simon Peter said to them, “Mary should leave us, for females are not worthy of life.” Jesus said, “See, I am going to attract her to make her male so that she too might become a living spirit that resembles you males. For every female (element) that makes itself male will enter the kingdom of heaven.”

We can then understand the saying as something that hints at inner polarities coming together and intimations of the same unification as saying 22.

But is there a lineage that can connect such teachings?

Maybe part of the solution lies with the Mandaeans, who claim descent from Seth, son of Adam and as Gerard Russell writes in Heirs to Forgotten Kingdoms, “…connect the present day with the distant pre-Christian past, the funerary banquet of the Mithraists and the Egyptians, and the teachings of the Manichees.” (6.)

But if we accept, as Jeremy Naydler argues, that The Pyramid Texts were not funerary at all, then the Mandaean ceremonies, which are still secret, may be about something else entirely, where the soul is not transformed after death, but while the person is still living.

This then echoes many of the unification themes in Thomas and provides a link between the shamanism of Egyptian mysticism and a Gnostic sect who trace their origins to the Middle East and ancient Babylon at the time when The Pyramid Texts were written.

In the Pyramid Texts, Osiris must die in order for Horus to be born, but Horus is Osiris in the same way as the female is made male and the two are made one, and the inside like the outside as we read in the Thomas sayings.

As Naydler goes on to say about the Pyramid Texts transformative exegesis, “Only when it is seen that the two gods can also correspond to two different existential phases, or states of consciousness, of one and the same king, is it possible to grasp the potential initiatory significance of their relationship.

Of course, the persecution of various groups and sects meant that many esoteric teachings became lost and fragmented over time. The amalgamation and mistranslations make it difficult to arrive at any certainties. However, as new scholarship is continuing to find, there is a deeply rooted relationship between Gnosticism, Hermeticism and new revelations about Egypt’s shamanic mysticism.

“Do not be unaware of me O God,

Know me, for I know you.

Do not be unaware of me, O God.

Of me, it is said: “The transitory one.”

Do not be unaware of me, O Ra.

Know me, for I know you.

Do not be unaware of me, O Ra.

Of me, it is said: “Great One who is destroyed.”

                    Utterance 45. The Pyramid Texts.

Jesus said, “Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you. For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest.”

The Gospel of Thomas. Saying Number 5.

This brings uncomfortable reassessments in some instances but it also allows us to believe that something timeless and transformative has been at the root of spiritual traditions around the world.

Sometimes the cultural and ceremonial differences have masked this very truth but sometimes it has been the very exploration of these differences which has uncovered the common shamanic essence.
